This year saw additional Black women-led companies cross the billion-dollar valuation threshold, expanding a cohort that was virtually nonexistent a decade ago. Each crossing matters not just for the founder but for the signal it sends to investors, young entrepreneurs, and the marketplace.

Record Funding Rounds

Black women-led startups raised record amounts of venture capital this year — still a fraction of what white male founders raise, but a trajectory that continues upward. The gap remains, but the direction is right.

Political and Institutional Breakthroughs

Black women continued to shatter glass ceilings in corporate boardrooms, government leadership, academic institutions, and nonprofit organizations. First-evers that matter.

The Entrepreneurs Who Defined the Year

From the beauty entrepreneur who bootstrapped a regional brand into national distribution, to the tech founder who raised a $15M Series A while pregnant, to the retired educator who launched a tutoring franchise in her sixties — this year's entrepreneurs reminded us that the definition of Black women in business is beautifully broad.

As we enter a new year, the question is not whether Black women will continue to build, lead, and innovate. The question is: what systems, capital, and communities can we build to accelerate the pace of what is already inevitable?
