Dr. Holloway, you left a prestigious hospital position to start a health tech company. What drove that decision?

Frustration, honestly. I spent years watching Black patients receive substandard care — not because of bad doctors, but because of a system that was not designed with them in mind. The electronic health records did not capture the right data. The clinical trials excluded them. The care navigation tools assumed a patient with time, resources, and trust in the system. My patients had none of those things. I knew the solution had to be built, and nobody was building it.

What does your platform actually do?

We meet Black patients where they are — literally. Our platform works through community health workers embedded in churches, barbershops, and community centers. We use technology to support those human relationships: tracking health metrics, sending reminders, connecting people to providers who look like them and understand their context. The technology serves the relationship, not the other way around.

What has been the hardest part of building this company?

Funding, without question. I had a Stanford MD, a decade of clinical experience, and data showing our approach worked. And I still had doors closed in my face by investors who could not see past their own blind spots. What kept me going was the patients — and a handful of investors who did see it.

What is your message to other Black physicians or scientists considering entrepreneurship?

Your clinical expertise is a competitive advantage, not a liability. You see problems that technologists miss. You have trust that outsiders can never build. Use that. The healthcare system will not fix itself from the inside — it needs disruptors who understand it from the inside.
