Church Health Check: Is Your Congregation Thriving?

Every healthy organization needs periodic assessments — and the Church is no different. But how do you measure spiritual and organizational health in a way that's honest, constructive, and actionable?
The Five Indicators
1. Attendance Trends
Is your congregation growing, plateauing, or declining? Numbers alone don't tell the full story, but patterns reveal important realities about engagement and community connection.
2. Giving Patterns
Generous giving is often a sign of spiritual health and trust in leadership. Consistent giving trends upward when people are invested in the mission.
3. Volunteer Engagement
Are people showing up only on Sundays, or are they actively serving? A healthy church has a high percentage of members involved in ministry beyond attendance.
4. New Believer Integration
How well does your church assimilate new believers? From first-time visitors to baptism to discipleship — is there a clear pathway?
5. Pastoral Wellbeing
You cannot have a healthy church with a burned-out pastor. The health of the shepherd directly affects the flock.
Taking Action
After assessing these five indicators, identify your top two areas of strength and your top two areas for growth. Build a 90-day action plan focused on those growth areas, and revisit the assessment each quarter.
